Gang Li is a Lecturer in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) at the University of Bath's School of Computer Science, affiliated with the Bath Institute for the Augmented Human. He holds a PhD in Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) from Pukyong National University (2016), following an M.Sc. in Computer Science (Pusan National University, 2010) and B.Eng. in Communication Engineering (Nanchang Aeronautical University, 2007). His postdoctoral training included cognitive neuroscience at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and HCI at the University of Glasgow. His research focuses on VR-BCI integration, neuromodulation (e.g., tDCS, tACS), AI-driven closed-loop systems, and combating cybersickness through vestibular neuroscience insights.
Research interests include neuroergonomics, neurorehabilitation, and wearable BCI systems. He teaches CM22013 Human-Computer Interaction 2 and supervises doctoral students in VR-BCI. External roles include serving as an invited editor for Advanced Intelligent Systems, program committee member for IEEE conferences, and reviewer for grants and top journals like CHI and IEEE VR.
Recent work explores motion sickness mitigation in VR via facial action units and brain stimulation, as well as perceptual adjustments for in-car VR comfort. He leads efforts in bionic vision processing and metaverse integration through epiretinal implants. Collaborations span international institutions, with a focus on advancing human augmentation technologies aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals.
