Gang Chen is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Health Economics (CHE), Monash University, and Vice President of the Australian Health Economics Society (AHES). He specializes in health economics, with expertise in person-centred care, disability wellbeing, and cancer research. His work includes developing the Disability Wellbeing Index (DWI) and Quality of Care Experience - Aged Care Consumers (QCE-ACC) instruments. He serves as an Associate Editor for Quality of Life Research and is a member of the International Academy of Health Preference Research.
Dr. Chen holds a PhD from Monash University and has received awards including the ARC DECRA Fellowship and Flinders University's Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Early Career Researchers. His research is funded by NHMRC, MRFF, Cancer Australia, and the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). He has published over 190 papers in journals such as Health Economics, PharmacoEconomics, and Value in Health.
Key research areas include economic evaluations of cancer screening, healthcare quality improvement strategies, and the application of real-world data in healthcare funding decisions. He has led collaborative projects on colorectal and oesophageal cancer surveillance, as well as studies on patient preferences for breast and cervical cancer services.
