Galina Shatalina is an Associate Professor of Russian at George Washington University (GW), where she has been since 1997. She holds a Kandidat degree in foreign languages from Moscow State University (1979) and has extensive international teaching experience, spanning roles in Moscow, Ghana, and the U.S., including with Diplomatic Language Services, Inc. Her research focuses on English-Russian lexicography, semantics, and language education. She co-authored the widely used textbook series Golosa: A Beginning Course in Russian, with the latest edition (6th) published in 2022–2023. She was honored with the Bender Teaching Award in 2001 for her educational contributions.
Dr. Shatalina's work emphasizes practical language instruction and textbook development. Her career reflects a deep commitment to advancing Russian language pedagogy, blending academic rigor with real-world application. Though her primary affiliation is with GW, her earlier roles, including chairing the Department of West European Languages at Moscow State University’s College of Afro-Asian Studies, highlight her broad expertise in multilingual education contexts.
