معرفی
Galina Gencheva is a Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the Department of Analytical Chemistry, Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski.” She holds a PhD in Analytical Chemistry (1993) and an M.Sc. in Chemistry (1986) from the same institution. Her research focuses on instrumental methods for molecular structure determination (e.g., spectroscopy techniques) and the design of coordination compounds as anticancer drugs.
Education
- M.Sc. in Chemistry (Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry), Sofia University (1986)
- Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Sofia University (1993)
Research Interests
Her work spans instrumental analysis (infrared/Raman spectroscopy, NMR, X-ray diffraction), synthesis of metal-based anticancer drugs (platinum, palladium, gold complexes), and nanomaterial applications in targeted therapy. She investigates drug stability, cytotoxicity, and mechanisms of action, with a focus on hemtoporphyrin IX complexes and PEGylated nanocarriers.
Grants & Projects
- National Science Fund (DN09/2016-2020): Rational Design of New Metal-Based Antitumor Agents
- EU Recovery Plan (2024): Synthesis of Pt(IV) complexes with tricarbamate ligands
Teaching
Teaches courses in instrumental methods (e.g., vibrational spectroscopy, electroanalytical techniques) at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Courses include Modern Methods in Molecular Spectroscopy and Instrumental Methods II.
Labs/Teams
Collaborates with international teams (e.g., Prof. Hegetschweiler, Prof. Ugrinov) on drug design and nanomaterial development. Active in crystallography and medicinal chemistry research groups.
