Gail K. Hoffman

Professor Gail K. Hoffman is a faculty member in the Department of Health and Human Performance at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. She transitioned from NCAA Women’s Volleyball coaching to academia in 2000, serving at UW-Richland and later leading the UW Colleges' Health and Human Performance Department as Chair. Currently, she emphasizes innovative teaching methods, including hybrid, online, and face-to-face courses, while integrating gender and ethnic studies into curricula.

Her pedagogy centers on collaborative group projects, fostering teamwork and inclusivity. These projects connect students with community businesses, schools, and local government, enhancing real-world relevance. Student evaluations highlight her success in creating welcoming environments that value diverse perspectives, free from bias.

Department Chair Dr. Matthew Fencl praises her enduring commitment to teaching excellence, noting her high expectations and belief in student potential. Hoffman has been recognized with the Underkofler Award, a $5,000 honor funded by Alliant Energy, celebrating her transformative teaching impact. She will be honored at UW-Platteville's August 31 convocation and a Madison ceremony in October.
