Gaetano LALOMIA is a Full Professor of Romance Philology and Linguistics at the Department of Humanities, University of Catania. He holds the academic position of Professor and serves as Deputy Director of the Department. He has held significant institutional roles including Rector's Delegate for Erasmus Institutional Coordination (2019–2021), Coordinator of the Foreign Languages and Literatures Section (2016–2020), and President of the LM37 Degree Course in Comparative Languages and Literatures (2019–2021).
His research focuses on medieval literature across Sicilian, Italian, Castilian, Catalan, and French traditions, particularly narrative genres such as the short story and romance. He has conducted extensive studies on Calila e Dimna, the Decameron, and Les Mille et Une Nuits, examining themes like humor, conflict, deception, memory, and the transmission of wisdom from East to West. He has also explored metaphoric conceptualization, especially of 'love' and 'anger,' and analyzed genre mixing and chronotopic structures in medieval Castilian prose romances.
His recent scholarly contributions include a critical edition of Olivieri di Castiglia and a monograph on the Castilian version of Alexander's novel. He led the University of Catania-funded project ARA (Atlas of Alexander's Novels) on time and space in Alexander narratives (2014) and currently coordinates the research project Eros romanzo e moderno (2020–2022).
LALOMIA is an active member of several prestigious academic associations:

He also serves on the editorial board of the journal Critica del Testo. His research is institutionally supported through competitive projects funded by the University of Catania, highlighting his ongoing scholarly leadership and academic productivity.
