Gaetano Bertino is a Full Professor of Gastroenterology at the University of Catania, affiliated with the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine. He serves as Head of the Hepatology Unit, Regional Referral Center for Hepatitis C Treatment, and Regional Reference Center for Rare Digestive System Diseases at A.O.U. Policlinico 'G. Rodolico-San Marco' in Catania. His academic roles include teaching Gastroenterology, Emergency Medicine, and Internal Medicine across multiple degree programs and specialization schools. He coordinates the PhD program 'New evaluation systems for hemodynamic and metabolic complications of chronic liver diseases'.
His research focuses on HBV/HCV chronic hepatitis, NAFLD/NASH, autoimmune hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, and rare digestive disorders. Key methodologies include antiviral therapies, ultrasound assessment, and liver biopsy.
