Prof. Dr. Gabriele Ricken is a Professor of Special Education Psychology and Diagnostics at the University of Hamburg, affiliated with the School and Primary School Pedagogy, Social Pedagogy and Pedagogy for People with Disabilities and Disadvantages (EW 2). Her work focuses on observing teaching-learning dynamics, developing diagnostic tools for learning barriers, and fostering inclusive education practices. She leads the ProfaLe project under the Quality Offensive Teacher Education, focusing on preparing teachers for inclusive classrooms.
Her research emphasizes early mathematical competency assessment, teacher training methodologies, and cross-institutional collaboration in pedagogical practices. Key projects include the MARKO-D screening tool for early mathematical skills and the Kalkulie training program for children with dyscalculia. She has authored/co-authored numerous books and articles on special education diagnostics, learning disabilities, and inclusive teaching strategies.
Prof. Ricken’s contributions extend to educational policy, advocating for resource integration between schools and therapeutic institutions. She collaborates with international institutions like the University of Zurich on observational learning techniques. Her team manages the Testbibliothek, housing over 1,600 diagnostic tools for educational psychology and pedagogy.
