Dr. Gabriele Janzen is an Associate Professor at Radboud University Nijmegen, affiliated with the Behavioural Science Institute and the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition, and Behaviour. Her research focuses on spatial memory, neuronal plasticity, memory consolidation, and the neural mechanisms underlying cognitive development. She holds a Diplom in Psychology from the University of Mannheim and completed postdoctoral training at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics and the Donders Institute.
Janzen’s work is supported by prestigious grants, including the ERC Starting Grant (2007) for spatial memory studies and the NWO Vidi Grant (2007) on neural correlates of spatial memory. She has also received the Aspasia Premie (2009) and a poster prize from the Dutch Psychonomic Association (2007). Her research integrates neuroimaging techniques to explore how spatial and linguistic information is processed and stored across the lifespan.
Her articles highlight developmental changes in brain activation during grammar learning, neural correlates of spatial cue use, and the role of theta oscillations in word consolidation. She collaborates on projects like the 'Magic moments in word learning' initiative, examining memory formation in diverse language settings. Janzen teaches master’s courses in pedagogical sciences and supervises research on spatial cognition and neurodevelopment.
Her labs and teams include the Neural Correlates of Spatial Memory group, where she investigates spatial orientation in children and adults. Her work bridges cognitive neuroscience with educational applications, emphasizing translational research to understand and enhance learning processes.
