Gabriela Godaly is Professor at Lund University's Division of Microbiology, Immunology and Glycobiology (MIG) and Research Team Manager in Medical Microbiology. She leads projects related to tuberculosis (TB) therapy and urinary tract infection (UTI) genetics, affiliated with EpiHealth and Infect@LU. Her work addresses global health challenges aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goal of Infectious Disease Control.
- Course Leader: Pathobiology 1 (2012–Present), Clinical Preparatory Course (2020–Present)
- Supervisor: 4 PhD students, 2 postdocs, 20+ graduate students
- Research Pillars: Antimicrobial peptides, TB granuloma targeting, UTI genetic susceptibility
Research Focus: Developing pleiotropic antimicrobial peptides with dual antimicrobial and immunomodulatory functions to combat TB's hepatotoxicity and MDR strains. Her work on inhalable nanocarriers and mycobacterial vesicles aims to enhance drug delivery to dormant bacilli. For UTIs, she explores genetic determinants of renal scarring and innate immune defects.
Publication Trends (2018–2025):
- TB: 60% of articles focus on antimicrobial peptides, nanocarriers, and vesicle-mediated pathogenesis
- UTI: 25% examine genetic susceptibility and cytokine regulation
- Methodologies: Structural biology, mouse models, clinical translation
