Gabriel Escontrias

Dr. Gabriel Escontrías, Jr., is a Lecturer affiliated with Arizona State University (Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College) and the University of Arizona (Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health). His career spans 20 years in higher education and public health, focusing on diversity, inclusion, and equity pipelines in postsecondary education and healthcare.

• Education: BA in Sociology (2003), MA in Education (2006), EdD (2012) from ASU
• Leadership: Managing Director, Division of Diversity and Health Equity at the American Psychiatric Association

His research centers on enhancing educational access and outcomes for marginalized communities, particularly Latinas/os in STEM and LGBTQ+/BIPOC groups in healthcare. He has led community outreach programs at the UA Cancer Center and taught courses including HED 510 (Intro to Higher Education) and HED 691 (Seminar) across institutions.
