Dr. Gabriel Cucato is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation at Northumbria University. He holds a PhD from the University of São Paulo and has conducted extensive research on the effects of physical activity in patients with cardiovascular conditions such as peripheral artery disease (PAD). His career includes roles at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein and Universidade Ibirapuera, where he secured prestigious Brazilian grants (FAPESP and CNPq). His research focuses on exercise physiology, telehealth interventions, and improving functional capacity in chronic disease populations.
Key research interests include:
- Acute and chronic effects of exercise on cardiovascular function
- Physical activity barriers and adherence in patients with PAD
- Telemedicine-based exercise programs for vascular patients
- Sedentary behavior and cardiometabolic risk factors
Recent work explores the impact of the pandemic on health behaviors and the application of innovative interventions like arm-crank exercise and isometric training. He has published widely on PAD pathophysiology, walking impairment metrics, and the relationship between mental health and physical function.
Scientific awards include two major Brazilian grants recognizing his contributions to clinical exercise science. His work bridges clinical practice and epidemiology, emphasizing translational research to improve patient outcomes in vascular and metabolic disorders.
