Dr. Gabriel Barceló Bauzà is a tenured Senior Lecturer in the Department of Pedagogy and Specific Didactics at the Faculty of Education, University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). His research focuses on the history of education, particularly the educational practices and school culture during the Francoist regime (1939–1975), with specialties in post-war Spain, photography as a historical source, and road safety education. He leads the Grup d'Estudis d'Història de l'Educació (GEDHE-IRIE-UIB) and has participated in national projects like Public History of Education in Spain (1970–2020). In 2023, he won the IX Premi Font i Roig d'Assaig for his book Cultura i pràctiques escolars a la Mallorca de postguerra.
Educated at UIB (PhD in Education), he teaches courses such as Contemporary Educational Thinking and History of Education. His work bridges archival research with ethnographic methods, analyzing sources like teaching memoranda, photographs, and oral histories to uncover hidden aspects of classroom practices. Current projects include studying material culture in education and the role of traffic parks in road safety education during the Franco era.
He has served as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Education (2021–2022) and is a board member of the Sociedad Española de Historia de la Educación (SEDHE). His publications span journals like Revista de Educación and Educació i Història, emphasizing methodological innovation in historical-educational studies.
