Gabhan Macpherson

Gabhan Macpherson serves as a Lecturer at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, University of the Highlands and Islands, teaching the BA (Hons) Gaelic and Development course and MSc Highland Folk Culture and History program.

His research investigates rural development, sustainable development, social history, migration, and land use through comparative Scottish-Norwegian lenses, including Gaelic galley traditions in song/poetry versus Norwegian boats and crofting engagement dynamics versus Norwegian small farming. Practical applications extend to crofting, town clerk duties, and board leadership for the 'Am Bàta' maritime culture project.

Community engagement defines his work, with the 'Am Bàta' initiative preserving boatbuilding skills and maritime heritage for youth, reflecting his commitment to applied cultural sustainability in Highland communities.
