GARY ATWOOD-MENDEZ

Gary Atwood-Mendez is an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in the Department of World Languages and Cultures at the University of Utah. He has held this position since July 1, 2012, after serving as an Assistant Professor from July 1, 2006, to June 30, 2012. Specializing in Spanish literature and cultural studies, he teaches courses ranging from introductory Spanish literature to advanced topics like Hispanic drama and postmodern temporalities.

Education:

• BA in Spanish from Idaho State University (1998)
• MA in Spanish from the University of California, Irvine (2001)
• PhD in Spanish from the University of California, Irvine (2006)

Research Interests: His work focuses on Spanish literature, cultural studies, and textual analysis, with particular emphasis on post-war literature, contemporary Spanish texts, and the intersection of cultural identity with literary forms.

Teaching Activities: Courses taught include Introduction to Spanish Literature, Hispanic Drama, Modern Temporalities, and specialized topics in Spanish and Latin American literature and culture.
