G. Eric Schaller is a Professor of Biological Sciences and Professor in the Molecular and Cellular Biology Graduate Program at Dartmouth College. He directs the Phytohormone Signaling Laboratory where he conducts research on plant hormone signaling mechanisms.
Dr. Schaller received his B.S. from Michigan State University and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. His research expertise spans plant biology, plant molecular biology, and signal transduction, with a particular focus on plant hormone systems.
His research program investigates how plants grow and respond to environmental changes through biochemical, molecular, and genetic approaches. The primary focus is on the roles of plant hormones ethylene and cytokinin, with research that has direct applications to agricultural problems such as controlling ripening and senescence. His work has revealed important insights into hormone receptor interactions, signal transduction mechanisms, and hormone crosstalk in plant systems.
Dr. Schaller's publication record demonstrates consistent contributions to understanding plant hormone signaling, with recent work focusing on cytokinin-ethylene interactions, receptor function, and molecular mechanisms of hormone action. His research shows a clear trajectory from fundamental receptor biochemistry to understanding complex hormone crosstalk in plant development.
Among his professional recognitions, Dr. Schaller is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, highlighting the significance of his contributions to plant molecular biology.
His laboratory continues to investigate the molecular mechanisms by which plants perceive and respond to hormonal signals, with implications for improving agricultural practices and understanding fundamental biological processes in plant systems.
