Dr. Fuchen Jia is a Senior Lecturer in the Fire Safety Engineering Group at the University of Greenwich, where he has worked since 1994. He is a core developer of the CFD fire modeling software SMARTFIRE, used internationally for fire risk assessment and investigation.
His research examines fundamental fire phenomena including radiation transfer, combustion chemistry, turbulent flow interactions, and fire spread dynamics. Application areas include aerospace safety and forensic fire analysis.
Jia received the 2006 Gold Award and George Taylor Prize for his pioneering CFD analysis of the Swiss Air SR111 crash, establishing new methodologies for aircraft fire investigation.
