Fritz B. Prinz is the Leonardo Professor in the School of Engineering at Stanford University, holding dual professorships in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering. He serves as Director of the Nanoscale Prototyping Laboratory and Faculty Co-director of the NPL-Affiliate Program. Prior to Stanford, he was on the faculty at Carnegie Mellon University. He earned a PhD in Physics from the University of Vienna.
His research focuses on nanoscale energy conversion and storage, leveraging advanced fabrication techniques like atomic layer deposition and scanning tunneling microscopy. His group explores prototype fuel cells and capacitors with topological electronic states, aided by atomic-scale modeling of charge dynamics.
Prinz leads a multidisciplinary team of doctoral students, postdocs, and visiting scholars, emphasizing cross-cutting innovation in energy technologies. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Precourt Institute for Energy, reinforcing his commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
