Frida Boräng is a Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science, University of Gothenburg, and Research Fellow at the Quality of Government Institute (QoG). She earned her Ph.D. in Political Science from the same university in 2013. Her research focuses on comparative and historical immigration policy, migrant integration, interest group advocacy, and state capacity with emphasis on environmental public goods provision.
Research Interests: Boräng leads interdisciplinary projects examining political integration barriers for immigrants, state capacity in emerging democracies, and anti-corruption frameworks. Her work bridges political theory with empirical analysis of welfare states, migration governance, and institutional effectiveness.
Publications: Her extensive output includes a monograph on migration institutions and articles in top journals. Recent works analyze state capacity through ideational frameworks, democratic constraints in policy implementation, and historical immigration patterns. Research consistently engages with governance challenges, representation dynamics, and environmental policy accountability.
Projects: Currently Principal Investigator for the Swedish Research Council-funded project Stalled integration?, exploring how anti-immigrant rhetoric impacts political integration. Co-investigator on projects examining state capacity in emerging democracies (The Power of Ideas) and combating political corruption (RESPOND).
Affiliations: Active collaboration with the Quality of Government Institute, contributing to research on institutional effectiveness and democratic resilience.
