Dr. Freya Vass is a Lecturer in Drama and Theatre at the University of Kent, specializing in dance, physical theatre, and interdisciplinary cognitive studies. She previously taught at institutions including the University of California Riverside and Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. Her research explores intersections between postdramatic dance, cognitive science, and sensory perception.

Her research focuses on cognitive approaches to dance-theatre, visuo-sonority in contemporary performance, and the metacritical dialogue between dance and scientific research. She founded the Kent Embodied Research Collective to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Her publications examine William Forsythe’s choreographic methodology, dance aging, and somatic dramaturgy. She emphasizes choreographic literacy and audience cognitive engagement in postdramatic works.
