Freya Thimsen is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at Indiana University Bloomington, where she directs the Rhetoric, Writing and Communication program. She holds affiliate appointments as Associate Professor in Gender Studies and Cultural Studies.

Research Interests: Dr. Thimsen specializes in contemporary political rhetoric with emphasis on democracy and social movement dynamics. Her work critically examines intersections between radicalism and liberalism, analyzing how radical arguments and technologies reshape conventional politics amid polarization. Current research investigates issue realignment across progressive and right-wing politics—including free speech, food systems, anti-corporatism, pharmaceutical profiteering, and unions—to expose both overlapping policy agendas and fundamental justificatory divides.
