Fredy González is an Associate Professor of Global Asian Studies and History at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences' Department of History. His research focuses on Asian diasporas in Latin America, particularly Chinese and Japanese communities. Previously, he taught Latin American history at the University of Colorado Boulder.
Research Interests: Dr. González specializes in transpacific politics, Chinese and Japanese migration patterns, and diasporic organizations like the Hong Men Chee Kung Tong. His current project examines the global history of this fraternal network, analyzing its role in diasporic adaptation and its political legacy in modern China and Taiwan. He is also researching Japanese migration to Peru.
