Fredrik Nilsson is a Professor at the Department of Design Sciences, Faculty of Engineering (LTH), Lund University, with a secondary appointment as a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Service Studies. He serves as Deputy Head of the Department of Design Sciences and is affiliated with the LTH Profile Area: Food and Bio, and CIRCLE (Center for Innovation, Research and Competence in the Engineering Education). His work focuses on advancing sustainable systems through complexity theory, emphasizing packaging logistics, circular economy, and sustainable supply chains.
Research Interests: His research integrates complexity theory to address sustainability challenges in supply chains, packaging systems, and e-commerce. He explores innovations that balance environmental, economic, and social dimensions, particularly in healthcare and food sectors. Notable areas include reusable packaging solutions, circular material flows, and systemic sustainability transitions.
Projects & Awards: Nilsson leads projects like 'The Role of Packaging in Mitigating Food Waste' and participates in initiatives such as the FORCE center for food resilience. He received the 2025 Helsingborgs Handelsföreningen Excellens-stipendium for his contributions. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to responsible consumption, climate action, and sustainable cities.
