معرفی
Professor Fredrik Engström is a Professor and Head of Subject in Process Metallurgy at Luleå University of Technology, where he is affiliated with the Minerals and Metallurgical Engineering division within the Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering. His research focuses on sustainable metallurgical processes with particular emphasis on metal recycling and slag valorization.
Professor Engström's research interests span multiple areas of sustainable metallurgy:
- Biological and hydrometallurgical recycling of critical metals from industrial waste streams
- Valorization of metallurgical slags as supplementary cementitious materials
- Recovery of lithium from battery production waste
- Characterization and processing of residues from metal production
His recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on developing circular economy solutions for metallurgical industries, particularly examining how waste streams can be transformed into valuable resources. Professor Engström's work bridges traditional metallurgy with modern sustainability requirements, addressing both technical challenges and environmental impacts of metal production and recycling.
His research has practical applications in:
- Spent catalyst recycling
- Lithium-ion battery recycling
- Sustainable construction materials development
- Circular resource management in metallurgical industries
Professor Engström maintains active collaborations with researchers both within Luleå University of Technology and internationally, particularly with institutions in Asia, working on solutions for sustainable metal recovery and resource efficiency.
