He holds a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Florida and completed a postdoctoral fellowship there. His research focuses on gene therapy for neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Parkinson’s disease, with an emphasis on alpha-synuclein protein mechanisms and treatments for levodopa-induced dyskinesia and nonmotor symptoms.
Dr. Manfredsson is a member of prominent organizations including the American Society for Gene & Cell Therapy and the Society for Neuroscience. His work has received recognition, including Department of Defense (DoD) funding for studies on neuropsychiatric symptoms in Parkinson’s (2025) and other awards (2023). He teaches undergraduate research courses (BIO 492, 493, 495) at ASU, emphasizing hands-on training in translational neuroscience.
His research lab at Barrow Neurological Institute investigates microbiology, virology, and therapeutic strategies for neurodegenerative disorders, with collaborations spanning academic and clinical institutions. Dr. Manfredsson’s interdisciplinary approach bridges basic science and clinical translation to address unmet needs in Parkinson’s disease management.
