Frederick L. Dryer

Frederick L. Dryer is Educational Foundation Distinguished Research Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Carolina. With over 45 years of combustion research experience, his work spans propulsion systems, alternative fuels, and emissions control.

Dr. Dryer's research investigates chemical kinetics of conventional and bio-derived fuels, combustion at elevated pressures, and pollutant mitigation strategies. His laboratory develops surrogate fuel models that emulate real fuel combustion behavior.

His publications reveal consistent focus on experimental validation of combustion phenomena, particularly droplet ignition characteristics and flame propagation under various thermodynamic conditions.
