Frederic Sansoz

Frederic Sansoz is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Vermont (UVM), affiliated with the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences. He holds a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from École des Mines de Paris (2000), with prior degrees from ISAE-ENSMA, France. His research focuses on nanostructured materials, small-scale mechanics, and atomistic simulation, emphasizing metallic nanomaterials' mechanical and physical properties. Sansoz has received prestigious awards, including the NSF CAREER Award and CEMS Excellence in Research Awards (2009, 2017), and is an ASME Fellow. He teaches advanced courses such as Advanced Engineering Materials and Multiscale Modeling. His Sansoz Research Group explores nanomaterials for extreme environments in energy, aerospace, and computing. Key research areas include twin boundary mechanics, solute segregation, and nanocrystalline alloy design.
