Dr. Fred Saad is a Full Professor at the University of Montreal’s Faculty of Medicine and holds the Raymond Garneau Chair in Prostate Cancer Research. He serves as Director of Urology at the University of Montreal Hospital Centers (CHUM) and leads the Department of Surgery’s Uro-oncology Unit. His roles include Director of the Molecular Oncology Laboratory at the Montreal Cancer Institute and President of the Canadian Urologic Oncology Group (CUOG).
His research focuses on molecular markers in advanced prostate cancer, clinical trials, and translational oncology. He coordinates over 40 clinical and basic research projects in uro-oncology and has delivered over 300 invited lectures internationally. Notable achievements include founding the CHUM’s uro-oncology clinic and establishing Quebec’s prostate cancer biobank (Alliance-ProCure).
Key awards include the 2018 Quebec Order of National Merit and the 2014 CRCHUM Excellence Award. His work emphasizes improving patient outcomes through precision medicine, biomarker development, and multi-institutional collaborations. Dr. Saad is actively involved in leading national and international initiatives, including the Terry Fox Research Institute’s Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network.
Recent research highlights include studies on radium-223 therapy for bone metastases, apalutamide combinations for metastatic prostate cancer, and the role of genetic markers like IKKε in treatment resistance. His clinical trials integrate molecular diagnostics with targeted therapies to personalize cancer care.
