Fred Rune Bjordal is an Assistant Professor at Sørøst-Norge University (formerly Østfold University College), affiliated with the Department of Education, ICT, and Learning. His research focuses on teacher professionalism, digitalization in education, and educational policy analysis. He holds a PhD from OsloMet’s Programme for the Study of Professions, an MA in Education from the University of Bergen, and an MA in Music Education from Bergen University College. His work experience includes teaching at Kråkerøy Lower Secondary School from 2006 to 2018.
His academic interests center on how digitalization impacts teacher-student relationships, professional identity, and educational policies. He has published extensively on topics such as discourse analysis of Norwegian educational policies, teacher agency in digital environments, and student identity formation. He reviews for journals like the Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research and International Journal of Learning.
Bjordal’s research projects include contributions to The Digital Society initiative, examining teachers’ professional knowledge in digitalized classrooms. His work bridges theory and practice, analyzing policy implementation from national frameworks to classroom realities. He teaches pedagogy courses for grades 1-7 and 5-10 teacher training programs.
