Fred Bourland is a Professor of Plant Breeding and Genetics at the University of Arkansas, affiliated with the Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences. He serves as Director of the Experiment Station (DREX) and is based at the NE Research & Extension Center. With a career spanning over five decades, he specializes in cotton breeding and genetics, having developed nearly 100 cotton lines and cultivars since 1970.
Education: B.S. Agriculture (1970), M.S. Plant Breeding (1974), both from University of Arkansas; Ph.D. Genetics (1978) from Texas A&M University.
Research focuses on cotton genetics, agronomic measurements, and variety testing. His work has significantly contributed to agricultural practices in Arkansas and beyond. Professional roles include leadership in extension services and collaboration with agricultural stakeholders.
