Fraser Smith

Fraser Smith is an Associate Professor in Naturopathic Medicine and Assistant Dean of Naturopathic Medicine at National University of Health Sciences (NUHS), located in Lombard, Illinois. He holds dual roles in academia and administrative leadership, overseeing the Naturopathic Medicine program within the College of Professional Studies. Dr. Smith earned a BA from the University of Toronto (1991), a ND from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (1997), and an MA in Training and Development from Roosevelt University (2014).

His research focuses on naturopathic principles, botanical medicine, and integrative healthcare strategies. He authored influential works including Keep Your Brain Young (2014) and Introduction to Principles and Practices of Naturopathic Medicine, now in its 2nd edition. He also contributed to The pH Balance Health & Diet Guide, addressing gastrointestinal disorders.

Dr. Smith’s professional accolades include the 2021 VIS Award from the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians. He previously served as Dean of Naturopathic Programs at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine and as President of the Illinois Association of Naturopathic Physicians (2008–2013). He currently teaches Botanical Medicine and Naturopathic History/Philosophy at NUHS and serves on the editorial board of the Natural Medicine Journal.

As an advocate for interdisciplinary healthcare, he emphasizes collaborative education and evidence-based practices. His clinical licensure spans Ontario and Vermont, reflecting his national influence in naturopathic medicine.
