Fraser E. Goff is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of New Mexico. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Cruz (1977). His research focuses on volcanology and geothermal systems globally, with extensive fieldwork in the Valles Caldera (New Mexico), Mexico, and the Galapagos Islands. He collaborates with institutions like Los Alamos National Lab and universities in Mexico, focusing on geothermal exploration, geochemistry, and volcanic hazard assessment.
- Education: Ph.D. in Geology, UC Santa Cruz, 1977
- Current Roles: Adjunct Professor, Geothermal/Volcanology Researcher
Research Interests: Specializes in volcanic systems' geochemical and geothermal dynamics. Key areas include:
- Magmatic degassing mechanisms
- Hydrothermal system evolution
- Caldera resurgence processes
- Applications of isotopic tracers
Collaborations: Works with multidisciplinary teams across academia, government, and national labs. Recent projects analyze CO2 emissions at Popocatépetl and geothermal systems in the Galapagos.
Teaching: Co-teaches the Volcanology Summer Field Course (E&PS 451L/551L) and Advanced Volcanology (E&PS 575).
- Advising: Supervises doctoral research on Valles Caldera tectonics and petrochemistry.
- Publications: Over 30 peer-reviewed articles since 2000, emphasizing geothermal system characterization and volcanic processes.
