Françoise BRINGEL

Françoise BRINGEL is a CNRS Research Director (DR2) at the University of Strasbourg, France, affiliated with the Molecular Genetics, Genomics, and Microbiology Laboratory (UMR 7156 CNRS). Her research focuses on microbial genomics, environmental biotechnology, and the role of microorganisms in pollutant degradation and atmospheric trace gas dynamics. She leads the AIME team (Adaptations et interactions microbiennes dans l'environnement) within the Vuilleumier research group.

BRINGEL holds a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology (1990) and an HDR (2006) from the University Louis Pasteur. She has held tenured CNRS positions since 1992, advancing to DR2 in 2014. She has supervised numerous PhD students, including Louis-François MEY and Bruno MAUCOURT, and contributed to over 150 peer-reviewed publications.

Her research interests span comparative genomics of one-carbon compound degradation, bacterial chloromethane metabolism, functional genomics of Methylobacterium, and microbial community profiling in polluted environments. Key areas include gene lateral transfer, nucleotide metabolism, and lactic acid bacteria taxonomy.

BRINGEL’s recent work addresses microbial adaptation to pollutants, cloud microbiology, and the role of phyllosphere microorganisms in atmospheric gas exchange. She coordinates projects like the ANR METACLOUD (2019–2023) and has received honors including the CNRS DR2 recruitment award (2014) and a postdoctoral fellowship from the NIH (USA).

Her contributions extend to academic service, including roles in CNRS committees and scientific boards. She teaches courses on plant microbiota and lactic acid bacteria genomics at the University of Strasbourg and Paris-Saclay.
