Dr. François Tremblay is a Full Professor at the School of Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Ottawa, and a Senior Investigator at the Brain Health Program of the Bruyère Research Institute. He is also the Principal Investigator at the Clinical Neuroscience Laboratory.
- Baccalaureate in physiotherapy (1985) and master’s in neurobiology (1989) from Laval University
- PhD in Neurological Sciences from the University of Montréal (1997)
Dr. Tremblay’s research focuses on human motor cortical physiology, particularly using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to investigate sensory and motor performance in healthy aging and neurological impairments. His work spans neurorehabilitation, corticomotor excitability, and biomechanical approaches. He has contributed extensively to understanding stroke recovery, pelvic floor muscle function, and age-related changes in motor systems, often combining TMS with behavioral and imaging techniques.
Recent publications highlight his exploration of tailored strength training in stroke survivors, neurophysiological markers of multiple sclerosis, and pelvic floor muscle activation patterns. He also co-developed national consensus guidelines for noninvasive brain stimulation protocols.
Dr. Tremblay teaches courses in the professional physiotherapy master’s program, including Motricité Humaine I (PHT5721), Douleur (PHT6544), and Neurologie avancée (PHT6542). His cross-appointments include the School of Human Kinetics and the School of Psychology.
