François Buton

François Buton is a Research Director at CNRS (section 43: Politics, Power, Organization) and Lecturer at École Normale Supérieure de Lyon (ENS Lyon), where he teaches in the Master's program in Social Sciences. He is a member of the Triangle laboratory (UMR 5206) and serves on its Scientific Council. His research focuses on socio-history, political sociology, and contemporary social movements, particularly the Yellow Vests movement. He leads projects on health policy, protest dynamics, and institutional governance.

Education: PhD in Political Sociology (EHESS, 1999), DEA in Social Sciences (ENS/EHESS, 1992), DEUG from Sciences Po Paris (1990).

He has directed over 10 doctoral theses, including works on healthcare professionals, political mobilization, and socio-historical analysis. His recent publications explore professional border crossings, health governance, and the socio-political impact of crises like the Yellow Vests and the pandemic.

He co-edits Politix journal and organizes interdisciplinary seminars on everyday political engagement and crisis responses. His media contributions address public health strategies and social movements.
