Dr. Franziska Roy is a Research Fellow at the Zentrum Moderner Orient (ZMO) since 2014. She specializes in South Asian history, focusing on youth movements, paramilitary organizations, and colonial dynamics during the 20th century.
- PhD in History from the University of Warwick (2008-2013)
- Masters in Historical Research Methods at SOAS, University of London (2007-2008)
- Magister and Law studies at Humboldt-Universität, Berlin (2003-2007)
Her research explores intersections between national discipline, volunteer organizations, and imperialism, with a particular focus on South Asia. She has published extensively on topics including World War I prisoners, paramilitary movements, and youth mobilization.
Dr. Roy’s recent publications include analyses of interwar paramilitary groups and South Asian civilian internment in Germany. She co-edited volumes on First World War contexts and internationalist youth movements, contributing to debates on colonial nationalism and global historiography.
She has presented at international conferences such as the Herrenhausen Symposium and European Conference of Modern South Asian Studies, addressing themes like paramilitary politics and post-war mobilization. Dr. Roy has also tutored undergraduate courses on Gandhi and Indian nationalism at the University of Warwick.
