Franziska Dresen

Franziska Dresen is a Researcher and Doctoral Student at the University of Health Bochum. She is affiliated with the Department of Midwifery Science and the Department of Nursing, Midwifery and Therapy Sciences. Her work focuses on integrating Planetary Health and Climate Justice into midwifery care, education, and teaching.

• Education:
  • Diploma in Japanese Regional Studies and Sociology (University of Bonn and Kagoshima University, 2001–2006)
  • B.Sc. in Midwifery (2020–2022)
  • Doctoral Student in Work Sociology (since 2024)

Her research priorities include Planetary Health Education, Climate-Sensitive Maternity Care, and Gender Dimensions in Climate Justice. She contributes to the EMPOWER project and is a founding member of the KLUG AG “All About Birth.”

Dresen has extensive clinical experience as a midwife in Germany and Tanzania (2017–2022). She also works on interdisciplinary collaborations, including the HBNE: Higher Education for Sustainable Development project, aiming to make midwifery a catalyst for transformative change.
