Franz Tscheikner-Gratl

Franz Tscheikner-Gratl is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). He holds a Master's (2011) and PhD (2016) in Civil Engineering from the University of Innsbruck, and has conducted postdoctoral research at TU Delft (QUICS FP7 Marie Curie ITN). His research focuses on urban water infrastructure management, including asset management of blue-green systems, modelling uncertainties, and integrated catchment analysis.

Key roles include secretary of the UDAM working group under the Joint Committee on Urban Drainage (JCUD), editorial board member of the Urban Water Journal, and active reviewer for multiple journals. Awards include the 2013 Eduard-Wallnöfer-Preis and the 2016 Austrian Excellence Award.

His research interests span asset management of green infrastructure, deterioration modelling, and decision-making frameworks for urban water systems. He leads projects like B-WaterSmart (EU-funded water-smart technologies) and StopUP (urban pollution mitigation), and collaborates on SESSILE (Legionella risk reduction in plumbing systems).

Publications emphasize asset management strategies, multi-infrastructure integration, and data-driven methods for infrastructure analysis. His work addresses challenges in sensor placement, leak detection, and model transferability across water distribution networks.
