Professor Frans Mäyrä is a leading academic in digital culture and game studies at Tampere University, Finland. He founded the Tampere University Game Research Lab and currently serves as Director of the Academy of Finland-funded Centre of Excellence in Game Culture Studies (CoE-GameCult, 2018-2025). He has led 45 externally funded game research projects with total funding of €6.4 million and authored An Introduction to Game Studies (2008), a foundational textbook in the field.
