معرفی
Frans Bongers is an Associate Professor in Forest Ecology and Forest Management at Wageningen University & Research, with a strong affiliation to PE&RC (Centre for Production Ecology & Resource Conservation). His research spans tropical forest ecology, biodiversity conservation, forest restoration, and sustainable management of forest resources, with particular emphasis on frankincense-producing Boswellia species. He maintains an extensive international research network with collaborators across tropical regions.
His research interests focus on tropical forest dynamics, forest succession, biodiversity patterns, and the ecological processes driving forest recovery. Dr. Bongers investigates how land use history, environmental conditions, and restoration methods influence forest regeneration and functional recovery. His work on lianas, dry forests, and secondary forests has contributed significantly to understanding tropical forest ecology. Recent research has increasingly focused on the conservation of frankincense trees and sustainable management of non-timber forest products.
Analysis of his recent publication trends reveals a strong focus on global forest ecology, with significant contributions to understanding forest succession patterns, functional trait dynamics, and the impacts of climate change on forest composition. His work bridges fundamental ecological research with practical applications for forest restoration and conservation, particularly in tropical regions.
Dr. Bongers actively supervises PhD and EngD students, with current projects including water use by secondary tropical forests, incentives for quality frankincense production in Ethiopia, and functional ecology of re-emerging Atlantic forests. His research is supported by multiple active grants, including the PANTROP project focusing on global forest dynamics.
He leads and participates in several research teams focusing on tropical forest ecology, with particular expertise in secondary forest succession, liana ecology, and frankincense conservation. His work involves extensive field research across tropical regions including Mexico, Ethiopia, and South America, often in collaboration with local institutions and international research networks.
