Prof. Frank Ueberschaer holds the Chair of Old Testament Exegesis and Theology at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg since 2016. His academic career includes a doctorate from the Church University of Wuppertal (2008), habilitation at University of Zurich (2014), and prior pastoral ministry. He leads the Septuagint Research Centre at Leucorea and co-chairs the SBL Deuterocanonical Literature Unit with Prof. Barbara Schmitz.
- Education: Protestant Theology & Jewish Studies from Wuppertal, Heidelberg, Jerusalem, and Bochum universities.
His research focuses on Septuagint studies, textual history, and wisdom literature, particularly Ben Sira. Current projects include a Ben Sira commentary (IEKAT) and DFG-funded text synopsis collaboration with international scholars. Key research interests span ancient Near Eastern ethics, royal ideology, and biblical textual criticism.
Publications emphasize Ben Sira's theological framework, Septuagint reception, and biblical intertextuality. Recent work explores concepts of freedom, education, and spatial thought in ancient Jewish contexts.
