Dr. Frank Stewart is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Science & Technology at Georgia Institute of Technology, affiliated with the School of Biological Sciences. His research focuses on understanding marine microbial diversity through ecological and evolutionary processes, with emphases on symbiotic interactions, genomics, and oxygen deprivation impacts. He holds a Ph.D. in Biology from Harvard University and a B.A. in Biology from Middlebury College.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Biology, Harvard University
- B.A. in Biology, Middlebury College
Research Interests: Combines microbiology, molecular evolution, and marine biology to study microbial genome evolution, symbiont biology, and global biogeochemical cycles. Uses fieldwork, molecular techniques, and bioinformatics to analyze high-throughput sequencing data.
Lab Activities: Integrates descriptive and experimental approaches, focusing on free-living microbes and their roles in ocean biogeochemistry. Active in studying oxygen minimum zones' effects on microbial metabolism and diversity.
