Frank Peeters is an Associate Professor at the Department of Earth Sciences, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, within the Faculty of Science. His research focuses on the Late Pleistocene history of ocean circulation and climate, using proxies such as Foraminifera to reconstruct past climate states. He teaches courses in statistics, data analysis, and paleoclimatology, and coordinates research projects for BSc and MSc students. He currently chairs examination boards for multiple Earth Science programs. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to climate action and sustainable development.
Research Interests: Marine Geology, Paleoclimatology, Ocean Circulation, and Climate Change. His studies employ sediment cores, stable isotopes, and microfossil analysis to understand natural climate variability over the past million years. Recent work includes refining age-depth models in marine sediments and analyzing foraminiferal morphology in Antarctic regions.
Publications span topics like sediment core analysis, oxygen isotope dynamics, and ocean current influences on climate proxies. He collaborates internationally on projects such as the Agulhas Leakage and Antarctic sediment trap studies. His datasets are publicly available on platforms like PANGAEA and Zenodo.
