Frank Heiland is a Professor in the Department of Public Affairs at Baruch College's Marxe School of Public and International Affairs (CUNY). He also serves as Associate Director of the CUNY Institute for Demographic Research (CIDR), coordinating studies on urbanization, aging, and health inequities. His research integrates labor economics, demographic analysis, and health policy, with ongoing projects on COVID-19 mortality disparities, retirement security, and disability dynamics.
Research Focus: Heiland investigates socioeconomic determinants of health outcomes, including obesity contagion in social networks, actuarial fairness in Social Security, and racial disparities in aging. His recent work analyzes unclaimed deaths in NYC to study extreme weather impacts on vulnerable populations. Methodologically, he employs longitudinal datasets, spatial analysis, and causal inference techniques.
