Franco Barbanera is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Catania since 1998. He serves as the Internationalization Responsible and Erasmus Coordinator for the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (DMI). His academic career spans roles from Research Assistant at the University of Torino (1992–1998) to his current position.
- Education: PhD in Computer Science (1993, Universities of Torino and Milano), Master’s in Computer Science (1987, University of Pisa).
Research Interests focus on Type Theory, mathematical/logical foundations of programming languages, functional programming paradigms, and type systems for distributed computing (particularly Session Types). His collaborations include researchers from Italy, UK, France, Netherlands, Turkey, and USA.
Teaching Activities include courses in Computer Science at both undergraduate (I level) and graduate (II level) programs at the University of Catania since 1998, covering topics like Functional Programming, Distributed Programming, and Computer Science Fundamentals. He also taught abroad at the University of Oregon (USA), University of Reykjavik (Iceland), and University of Sussex (UK).
