Royal Holloway, University of Londonمعرفی
Francisco Úbeda de Torres is a Professor of Mathematical Biology at the School of Biological Sciences, Royal Holloway, University of London. His research focuses on evolutionary dynamics driven by genomic and social conflict, particularly how intragenomic conflicts lead to molecular mechanisms detrimental to individuals and result in diseases. He uses mathematical models to formulate evolutionary theories and interpret biological data, with applications to human health and medical implications. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.
Current projects include:
- Modifying plant memories for climate resilience (Gatsby Charitable Foundation, 2024)
- Origin of sperm parasitism via Amazon Molly studies (NERC, 2020–2022)
- HTLV-1 transmission modeling in West Africa (EPSRC, 2016–2017)
Research interests encompass evolutionary theory, population genetics, and social evolution, with recent work exploring genomic conflict mechanisms in PRDM9, microchimerism in pregnancy, and pathogen-host dynamics.
Grants and collaborations highlight funding from major bodies like NERC and EPSRC, with active international networks in evolutionary biology and medical research.
