Francisco Jose Ribadas Pena

Francisco Jose Ribadas Pena is a full-time Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Universidade de Vigo, Spain. He is affiliated with the COLE (Computational Learning) research group and holds a PhD from the University of A Coruña (2002), where he studied pattern recognition in shared forests under Dr. Manuel Vilares Ferro.

His research spans artificial intelligence, machine learning, and natural language processing, focusing on hate speech detection, recommender systems, and neural network optimization. He has published extensively in these areas, with key contributions to collaborative filtering, topic modeling, and multilingual text classification.

Recent work highlights trends in hate speech identification via feature engineering, early stopping mechanisms in neural networks, and integration of latent factor models with NLP for personalized recommendation systems. Collaborative projects include CiTIUS-COLE’s participation in SemEval-2019 Task 5 and CLEF tracks.
