Francisco Buera

Francisco Buera is the Sam B. Cook Professor of Economics at Washington University in St. Louis and serves as Associate Chair of the Department of Economics. He is Co-Director of the Center for Dynamic Economics (CEDEC) and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), focusing on the Economics Fluctuations and Growth program. Previously, he held academic and research roles at UCLA, the Federal Reserve Banks of Chicago and Minneapolis, Princeton University, MIT, and Northwestern University.

His research focuses on macroeconomic development, integrating microeconomic considerations into macro models to study topics like financial markets' role in development, structural transformation, technology diffusion, and policy evaluation. Key areas of investigation include the service economy's rise, the impact of financial crises, and institutional constraints on firm growth.
