Dr. Francis Jiggins is a Reader (Associate Professor) of Evolutionary Genetics in the Department of Genetics at the University of Cambridge and serves as a Principal Investigator with Cambridge Infectious Diseases.
His academic credentials include a PhD in Genetics (1997-1999) and an MA in Zoology (1993-1996), both from the University of Cambridge. His research focuses on the evolutionary genetics of host-pathogen systems, with particular expertise in insect-pathogen interactions, innate immunity mechanisms, and viral immune evasion strategies involving rhabdoviruses and picornaviruses.
His work integrates genomic, ecological, and evolutionary approaches to investigate pathogen biology and host defense systems, with documented connections to African research networks through Cambridge Infectious Diseases.
Dr. Jiggins has received significant recognition through prestigious fellowships:
