Francesco Pierangeli is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Birmingham Business School, University of Birmingham, where he is affiliated with the Department of Finance. His research centers on the integration of blockchain into socio-economic systems, with a focus on financial innovation and economic development. He is also a research associate at the UCL Centre for Blockchain Technologies.
Francesco holds a PhD in Economics jointly awarded by King's College London and the National University of Singapore, and an MSc in Economics from the University of Hong Kong. His academic background is complemented by professional experience at major financial institutions including J.P. Morgan and UBS.
His research interests include Game Theory, Innovation in Financial Markets, and the socio-economic implications of blockchain technology. He teaches courses such as Principles of Economics and Finance, Advanced Corporate Finance, Blockchain Financial Applications and Cybersecurity, and International Banking at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
His recent publications explore the dynamics of cryptocurrency adoption, particularly Bitcoin, in emerging economies like Nigeria, and the design of decentralized cryptocurrency exchanges. These works reflect a strong interdisciplinary approach combining economics, finance, and technology.
Francesco is a member of several professional associations, including the American Economic Association, European Economic Association, Society for Institutional & Organizational Economics, and the Royal Economic Society.
